Sadie Mcintosh was admitted to the Pompano Rehabilitation Center as a short term patient following a hip replacement surgery. The staff at the nursing home failed to provide proper treatment to Sadie allowed her to develop a large bed sore in her lower back. Additionally, the staff allowed the bed sore to become infected and failed to report the infection to the treating physician. As a result, Ms. Mcintosh deteriorated and her bed sore grew to a stage four ulcer. The infection spread throughout her body and ultimately caused her death. Sadie was survived by her eight children and many grandchildren.
The family brought suit against the facility for negligence and attorneys Jeffrey M. Fenster and Stacie L. Cohen were trial counsel. On June 6, 2002 a jury rendered a verdict in favor of the Mcintosh family and awarded them $2,970,000.61.
