A Lauderhill teenager attained a settlement of more than $4,000,000 after he was left brain damaged following outpatient surgery. The local teenager entered the hospital for a shoulder surgery which was successful. Following the surgery, a pain pump was implanted to provide for post-operative pain relief. The combination of the anesthesia and the pain medication resulted in a drug overdose causing cardiac arrest. While the teenager was able to be revived, he was left with permanent brain damage. The settlement funds were paid by the anesthesiologist, surgeon and hospital involved.
